Why Maisha joined Penny Appeal
Hi, my name is Maisha and this International Volunteer Day, I wanted to share my story of how I joined Penny Appeal’s Team Orange.
As someone who was constantly involved in community fundraiser events during my high school years, I found myself struggling to find the same opportunity, once I left school. I explored different volunteer opportunities but they didn’t give me the same spark and support that my local high school did and I didn’t experience the same enjoyment in community fundraising that I did while at school.
For me raising funds needs to be done whilst having fun.
Just as I was about to call it quits, a friend (after hearing my concerns) encouraged me to join Team Orange. That was one of the best decisions I have made.
The passion and energy that Team Orange radiates is unmatched. Team Orange has given me the opportunity to meet volunteers from all walks of life, each as passionate as the next and all wanting to make a difference. Whether it involved preparing food packages for refugees or travelling 5 hours to meet rural communities in NSW, their dedication and hard work is unlike anything I’ve seen elsewhere.
As a Team Orange volunteer and now a Volunteer Coordinator, I strive to carry this energy to help others in need!
This International Volunteer Day, let’s celebrate Team Orange for always going that extra mile to make a big difference!
